New Nikon Work

Nikon just put up our latest project. We were trying to move them away from leaning on sheer star power by casting the Ashton Kutchers of the world. We wanted to tell smaller, more human stories. Luckily they gave us the chance and we found an interesting mix of characters.

We worked with New York based director Timothy Saccenti, who has a rich background in music videos and had the kind of modern, graphic approach we were looking for. He made his first trip out to Tokyo, had shared some sushi and yakiniku with us and did ‘the Tim Saccenti thing.’

Really loved his attention to detail on the set design. Transforming this warehouse into a modern feeling art space. The oversized projector screens made for a stylish way to display the photos. It’s like a more analog approach to a green screen.

This documentary just got put up on the Nikon site. A cutdown 30 second version will be running as a TV spot in some markets.

Dear Baller who Tooled me Repeatedly Last Week at Yoyogi Court,

I know it seemed like I had laced up a pair of cement blocks last time we met. I’m not here to make excuses, but to level the playing field. You had to notice that the soles of my Air Force Ones were starting to detach from the rest of the shoe. Yet you still exploited it, over, and over and over.

Next time we meet, I will be wearing new shoes, infused with new technology, infused with my new attitude.

Good luck driving the lane against my lunarfoam injected gumption and stick-to-it-iveness.

My nerves are stabilized with flywire. My mouth filled with more jargon and pop-culture references and sound effects than you can shake a stick at. I will be using every trick I have to regain the edge against you.

You’ve tasted the feathery and high release fade-away. That proved unblockable last time, despite the concrete blocks. And I still somehow managed to grab every board that entered the contested space between us. Small victories to be had in the face of you completely owning me on every drive.

It was just catching up with that first step, that eluded me last time. We did end up winning 10 straight games out there. Too bad you couldn’t exploit your mismatch over me to the tune of a victory. I noticed you weren’t much a fan of passing. You should probably teach yourself to find the open man when I’m cutting off your drives next time.

I’ll just be here yammering away in cyberspace and psyching myself up for our rematch.

Feel free to post a comment (oh, wait, that’s right, I didn’t enable comments on this blog…. when you’re viewing my blog, you’re in my house.)

Anyway, you might not recognize me the next time we meet…

I’ll be the one actually moving my feet on defense.

See you soon player.

The Palace Run

Just got back from our bi-weekly run around the Imperial Palace.

It was a morning run, but the sun was already starting to wreak its havoc, making the moat around the palace grounds look pretty appealing.

For the first couple ‘K’ of the palace loop, we felt pretty good about ourselves. This was our fourth run, and things were starting to feel solid. Just when the satisfaction set in, three runners, one after the other blazed by us. All decked out in far more serious running gear and keeping an even more serious pace.

Demoralized, we tried to find an ego boost where ever we could. We did end up passing a briefcase toting salaryman (he was late for work so he was running… that’s gotta count for something) And we also passed an elderly man on a bicycle.

Two little victories. I’ll take em.
